Mid-year reset is upon us. Less than 6 months left until December. Gulp. I know I am not alone in setting goals in January and now it’s July. Wondering if I can still achieve any of the goals I wanted to this year. Studies show that by July, only about 5% of people are still attempting to maintain their resolutions. A mid-year reset is a valuable tool to evaluate the year so far. The middle of the year is a powerful checkpoint. It gives you real evidence bout what is working, what has stalled, and what needs to change.

A smart mid-year reset is not about starting over. It is about using goal setting as a practical tool to refocus your time, energy, and attention. It’s an opportunity to reflect on how you’ve spent the past 6 months. It’s a chance to course correct or decide that the goals are no longer worth pursuing, at least for now.

mID-YEAR RESET PROCESS

  • Step one: Take a look at your photos and videos. Look at your calendar. Review the screentime report on your phone. This will tell you how you have spent your time in the past 6 months.
  • Step two: Pull out all of your financial statements. Review them carefully. This will tell you how much you spent, what you have spent your money on and how much you have saved or invested.
  • Step three: Review your journal, if you keep one as part of your morning routine. Then, ask yourself these questions: What have I been writing about? What have I been dreaming about? What desires have I been expressing?

After you have answered these questions, reflect on your habit and routines. Some additional questions for reflection include: What progress have I made? What no longer fits? What one result would make the rest of the year feel successful? Then turn those answers into smaller milestones. Instead of vague intentions, choose specific measurable actions that are attainable in a realistic timeframe (SMART). Effective goal setting works best when goals are specific, realistic, and connected to a bigger purpose. Personally, I decided I needed a summer reset and after coming across Project 50, I decided to try it. But it has not been easy. I am now half-way through the challenge.

If you are in a job search, a mid-year reset is especially important. Don’t just rework your resume. Reconsider how much time you spend applying online. Consider spending more time networking. Changing strategies can restore momentum and help you spend less time repeating what is not working.

NEXT STEPS BEFORE AUGUST

Before this week ends, choose one goal to keep, one goal to revise, and one strategy to stop using. Your second half does not need a perfect plan. It needs an honest reset and one clear next step.
